Can 2015 Ram 3500 Be Flat-Towed Behind Motorhome

Question:

Hello, I have a 2015 Newmar London Aire with 600 HP and 15,000 hitch tow rating with an excalibar tow bar. Right now I flat tow a Unlimited Wrangler but have towed a 2014 Ram 1500 crew cab with no problems. From what I can find the Ram weighs roughly 8,300 lbs. the tow bar is rated to 10,000 lbs. My question is do you recommend towing a dually diesel 4X4 with 8foot bed or would I have problems with the overall length or width of the dually ? Thank you,

From my research I found the 2015 Ram 3500 would weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 7,000 lbs, depending on the features, so your Ram should have no problem being towed behind your motorhome.

The # DM9518134 is designed for the 2500 and 3500 Ram pickup, and they will work well with the Excali-Bar tow bar you said you already have.

It sounds like you are familiar with flat-towing but if not there are 5 items needed when you want to tow a vehicle. You will need the tow bar and base plates, safety cables, lighting for the towed vehicle, and most states not require a supplemental brake system. If you need any of these items just let me know and I can make some recommendations that will work for you.

For safety cables I recommend part # RM-643. The lighting I recommend is part # RM-154.

The supplemental brake system I recommend is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, part # RM-9400. This is a proportional brake system that applies the brakes in direct proportion to the motorhome brakes. You will also need a 12 volt outlet kit, part # RM-9332.

Depending on the brake pedal and whether you have an electronic shifter on your Ram you will need a stop light switch.

I have attached a helpful article about flat-towing you can check out.
