Flat Towing Setup Recommendation for a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
Question:
I recently purchased used from a private citizen a Road Master Eagle 8000 tow bar, it came with a RM-067 base. I am beginning to believe however that this will not work on my 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Am I correct? Thanks

You have a tow bar now, the # RM-067 is just a component of the tow bar you currently have, and now you need a base plate kit for your vehicle as well as everything else needed to flat tow.
For a base plate kit you would need the part # 474-1.
For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting you can use the bulb and socket kit, # RM-155, and not have to worry about cutting and splicing into the vehicle wiring.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the two vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
