Can Brakes Still Engage on Engager Trailer BreakAway System # 20099 with Pin In Place

Question:

Is there any way that trailer brakes will lock on with the plunger in the breakaway box, is it like a switch when its in its off an when you pull it out it kicks on!? I got mine working and my fear is that itll lock on for some odd reason even when the plunger is in, can this happen thanks

I spoke with my contact at Hopkins and when it comes to a breakaway system like the Engager Trailer BreakAway Kit, # 20099, the pin must be pulled in order to activate the brakes. As long as the unit is wired properly and the switch has not been tampered with or damaged, there is no need to worry about the brakes locking when the pin/plunger is in place.

One thing I do recommend is that you make it a habit of checking the pin after your vehicle and trailer have been left unattended. In the trailer world we have heard of cases where vandals have come past and pulled the pin just to ruin someone's day.
