Air Dam Trimming Required to Install Base Plate Kit on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I just received the 521448-5 base plate and getting started on the install. My question is about the air damn. Why do the outer edges of damn have to be trimmed off. Would it be possible to trim the damn for the bracket to come thru and not trim off the two edges. For some reason my computer will not allow me to play the install video. Thank you

You could try just trimming a section of the air dam out for the bracket to go through, but most likely you would find that it's lack of support would cause it to be rather flimsy and it would make tightening the bolts on the outside of the base plate kit difficult since the air dam could cover the access to them.
