There are several components needed to flat tow a vehicle behind a motor home including, but not limited to, base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
The base plates provide the proper and safe attachment point on the vehicle for the tow bar. For your 2013 Chevy Sonic you can use # BX1703.
Next you will need a compatible tow bar. If you want to keep the cost down then you can use Blue Ox Adventurer tow bar # BX7322. (Cost for any item is available on the product pages.) This tow bar will work but you will have to have the Sonic and RV lined up straight and level to hookup/disconnect which is not always an option when you are in camp grounds. For this tow bar you would need to add safety cables, # BX88196.
For much easier hookup and more flexibility I recommend the Alpha, # BX7380. It has telescopic arms and can pivot some allowing easier hookups and disconnects. This tow bar comes with safety cables.
Next you will need a lighting solution. The most cost effective solution is to use a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. But for a more permanent solution our installers here prefer the bulb and socket kit # RM-155. Either one of these kits will bypass the vehicle wiring.
It also looks like you will need to pull a fuse to flat tow your Sonic. Consult the vehicle owners manual to confirm. You could manually pull and reinsert the fuse as needed or you could install fuse bypass # RM76511 to make it as easy as flipping a switch.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
