How to Wire Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller 90885 in 2015 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Hi, Im moving my Prodigy P2 controller from my old 4Runner to my new 2015 4Runner. Theres a green wire on the connector from the 4Runner marked headlamp switch to vehicle tail lamps. Why did Toyota provide this wire to the P2? Shouldnt that be connected to the switched running lights connection on the car? Theres a separate green-yellow wire vehicle stop lamp switch to brake controller that seems to go to the Red wire on the P2. Thanks.

Since vehicle wiring colors can change from year to year (and even between production runs) it is often best to ignore wire colors and simply test to find the one wire at the brake light switch that delivers voltage ONLY when the brake pedal is applied and at no other time. This wire is the one that connects to the P2's red input wire. The black wire is 12V input power; the white wire is ground; and the blue wire is the controller output.

A tester like # PTW2993 makes it easy to find the one correct wire at the brake light switch.
