Weight distribution systems like the Reese Strait-Line # RP66084 can be fitted with a new shank portion, such as the # RP63971, when a different amount of height rise or drop is needed for the hitched trailer to remain level with the ground - which is essential for good handling.
It is also possible to use a different size shank to enable a weight distribution system used in a 2-inch hitch to be moved over to a vehicle that has a 2-1/2-inch hitch. In this case only the shank portion needs to be replaced since the head/ball assembly can simply be transferred to the new shank. The linked page will show you both 2-inch and 2-1/2-inch shank portions for weight distribution systems.
