Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2015 Chevy Colorado that Did Not Come with Factory Tow Package
Question:
I will be installing a trailer hitch on my Colorado. It does not have a tow package. I have installed hitches on my last 4 vehicles with wireing that that plugs in to the factory lines. It appears that I will need to splice into the existing wires. Before I splice, I wanted to determine if the seven wires caped off inside the bumper were the factory trailer tie in lines. Do you have any information regarding the use of these caped wires?

Expert Reply:
The plug you have found on your 2015 Chevy Colorado could be the tow package wiring and there is a chance that they are active. You can use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the wires while someone sits in the truck and runs through the light functions. If there is power, then you might be able to plug in a harness such as # C56515.
If the wires are not active, you will need to hardwire in a harness such as # 46255 by using a circuit tester to find the correct wires behind the taillights.
