Do Transmission Coolers Give More Towing Capacity

Question:

I am in the market for a 2007-2009 suburban or Tahoe. I cannot find any good info on the true towing capacity of these vehicles. Do you know if installation of a transmission cooler to a vehicle without one would bring the vehicle up to max max towing capacity stated by the manufacturermanufactur?

Expert Reply:

The towing capacity listed for a vehicle would be how much it could tow safely totally stock. The addition of a transmission cooler would not allow it to tow more than this figure, but it would preserve the life of the transmission as the number one killer of transmissions is excessive heat.

The best way to pick out a cooler is to go with the largest one that will fit the available space in front of the radiator. The part # D13503 would be a great choice and it measures 11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

You would also want the snap in fitting part # D13035 so that you wouldn't have to cut any metal lines.
