Troubleshooting Wiring On 2005 Chevrolet Z71 And Trailer

Question:

I have a 2005 z71 my left side works on my trailer but the right side doesnt all fuses are good the post under the hood I have one red wire closes to the fire wall that has power but the one closes to the grill doesnt the are both red wires its a 7 prog plug on the back of my truck plez help me solve this problem thanks

You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the 7-way connector on the back of your 2005 Z71. You would need to disconnect it from the trailer and have someone sit in the cab and run through the functions as you test each pin on the connector.

If the wires on your vehicle check out okay, you will want to move to the trailer. make sure the connectors are clean of corrosion and dirt. Then check all of the trailer wires at the lights and make sure the ground wire is secured to a clean bare metal surface. I have attached a drawing of trailer wiring you can check out to make sure everything is run as it should. You always want to check the wiring by function and not by color.
