Braking System to Flat Tow 2011 Honda Pilot, Where to Get Longer Fuse, and Flat Towing Instructions

Question:

I have purchased a bunch of stuff from you guys, and I want to make sure Im doing the right thing before I start cutting on my car. I have a BX7365 Blue Ox Tow Bar, Blue Ox Base Plate, and Fuse bypass relay. I need to get a supplemental brake controller and am still deciding between the Patriot and the Invisibrake system. I have a few questions. Where can I get the 15 Amp with long leads for the fuse bypass relay job? I havent been able to find one. Also, do you know of any source of instructions of things I need to do to my vehicle before driving it? Ive heard you have to start it up and shift between gears, but Id really like a checklist. Thank you very much.

The InvisiBrake # RM-8700 is an involved installation and might not be the best option for your 2011 Honda Pilot due to the distance of the line pull on the cable attached to the brake pedal. I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It is a similar installation but the line pull is shorter making it more reliable. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. It uses a shorter cable pull and thus provides better braking.

You should be able to get the appropriate size fuse at a local auto parts store so that it will work with the fuse bypass # RM76511. They are usually sold as a bundle in assorted sizes.

As for the procedure for flat towing your Pilot you will need to consult the vehicle owners manual in the recreational towing section. It will tell you the process.
