Troubleshooting Trailer Blinkers That Both Arent Functioning

Question:

so the question is I have power to all my lights on the pop up camper but the left and right turn signal are not coming on when I need you from the truck. is it a light bulb problem? also would just one turn signal bulb go out cause the other one not to work? Thanks guys

Most likely you have a bad connection on the main trailer ground of your trailer if both of the turn signals aren't working. The higher illumination of that circuit might be too much for the condition of the current ground to illuminate the light. Each circuit would be separate so unlike Christmas lights if one goes out the other would not automatically go out as well.

I recommend testing the trailer connector on the truck side. You will need 2 things. First, you will need a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if you do not already have one. Second, you will need someone to sit in the truck to run the lights while you test the trailer connector. Check out the video I attached that shows how this is done.

If everything is working properly, you can eliminate the truck. If the tester does not light up with the brakes pressed or it lights up on a different pin, then something is not wired correctly or there could possibly be a relay that needs to be replaced. The owners manual can tell you the location of relays.

While at the truck side connector, if you find any corrosion or dirt, go ahead and clean it out. Do the same with the trailer side connector. On the trailer side connector, make sure that the main ground is connected to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. Trailer lights usually ground through the mounting studs and they, too, will need to be attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface.
