Does Brake Controller Manual Override Get Used with Normal Braking or Emergency Situations

Is the manual override lever to be engaged only in emergency situations or simultaneously while breaking?

The manual override on a brake controller is used independently of the regular braking function. It can be used for emergency situations, which is why it has to be within easy reach of the driver. Or if you have a controller that only applies trailer brakes if it senses movement and need to hold the trailer, such as going up or down hills, the manual override should be used.
