Difference Between 4 on 4 and 5 on 4-1/2 Axles
Question:
I currently have a snowmobile trailer with a capacity of 1240# 4 on 4 axle. Im thinking of upgrading it to a 2000# axle but I im uncertain in if I should go with a 5 on 4 1/2 or stay with the current 4 on 4. What differences/ benefits if any between the two axles? Please advise I will be using this to haul two atvs with a combined weight of 1700# Thanks for your advice.

In general a 5 on 4-1/2 axle is going to have a higher weight capacity than the 4 on 4 axle so it is going to cost a little more as well. Since you plan on carry two ATVs with a combined weight I would recommend going with the standard 5 on 4-1/2 axle.
I recommend replacing the leaf springs as well since you plan to upgrade the capacity of the axles and hubs.
I have included a link to our 2000 lbs axles with 5 on 4-1/2 wheel bolt patterns for your reference.
