Replacement Weight Distribution Shank and Trunnion Bars for Trailer with 1,700 lb Spring Bars
Question:
I currently have a Reese dual cam setup with 1200 lb bars. I am using a Reese 54990 shank which is rated at 1200 lbs. I recently upgraded my trailer to a heavier unit and found, using a sherline scale, that my tongue weight varies from 1400 - 1500 lbs plus what I put in the bed. I know I can buy the 1500 lb trunnion bars but I am having trouble finding a shank that will work. I have a lifted dodge 2500 and the Reese 54990 works well but just isnt rated high enough. Do you have a shank similar to the 54990 but higher rated? Do you think 1500 lb bars would be acceptable or should I go with the 1700 lb bars?

Expert Reply:
For a Reese shank that has a 1,600 lb tongue weight capacity that should work great you would want the part # RP54998.
Since your tongue weight is around 1,500 lbs you would want to go with the 1,700 lb trunnion bars part # 66010. These have the curved ends that will work with the Straitline system you have as well.
