Flat Towing Setup Recommendation for a 2014 Honda CR-V

Question:

Towing equipment. I am outfitting and 2014 Honda CR-V EX-L to tow behind and Class A motorhome. The motorhome has 5000 lb. 2” receiver hitch with a standard 7 pin electrical connection. I want to know what equipment you recommend to safely tow the Honda. I have looked at both Roadmaster on Blue Ox and both appear to be good products. Your recommendation should also include the electrical wiring needed. I will also need a braking system. Your reply is appreciated. Thank you,

We have everything you would need to flat tow your 2014 Honda CR-V. First lets start with a base plate kit as that is the attachment point on the vehicle. For that you would want the Blue Ox Base Plate kit part # BX2258. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

The Blue Ox Alpha # BX7380 is the most popular tow bar we offer that has been confirmed to work with the base plate kit so it should work very well. It also comes with safety cables.

For trailer wiring you would want the Hopkins Kit part # HM56304 and the # RM-164-7. This will plug in line with your vehicle taillights and won't require any cutting, splicing, or drilling. To convert your 7-way to a 4-way you would also need part # A7WCB.

You will need a fuse bypass to make pulling the needed fuse easier when flat towing. For that you would want the # RM76512.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the two vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. You will also need the 12 volt outlet kit part # RM-9332.

I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.

I have 2014 Honda CR-V EXL that I wanted to flat tow behind my class C motorhome with Ford E450 V10 engine it has trailer hitch with 5000lbs capacity. I am looking for cost effective option. Can I use the following combinationsRoadmaster 521567-5 Tow Bar Bracket CURT 19745 Adjustable Car RV Tow Bars

The Roadmaster Base Plate Kit # RM-521567-5 is a great choice for your CR-V, however if won't work with the Curt Tow Bar # C19745. This unit is designed to attach directly to the car with its included brackets (you wouldn't use separate base plates with it). It's more of a universal setup that would require some pretty significant modifications on the vehicle and really isn't the best option for the CR-V since it requires a flat metal portion on the bumper. I instead recommend the Falcon # RM-520 to go with those Roadmaster Base Plates. This represents a quality, yet economically priced tow bar that's completely compatible.

The 2008 and 2014 Honda CR-V differ enough that a different base plate kit is required for each vehicle. For the 2008 CR-V the right Blue Ox kit is the part # BX2246. The 2014 model would need the Base Plate # BX2258 that Jameson mentioned above.
