The LED Light on the Brake Master is Good, but Will Not Light When the Brakes are Applied

Question:

Everything works on the tow vehicle 04 malibu, the brake lights work, turn signals work, and the Brakemaster 9000 applies the brakes, but can not get the LED to light on the motor home dash. Took the light out and connected it directly to car battery, it works. I have been told that it could be the Brake-lite -relay, what is your opinon on that? Should I invest in a new relay? Thank you

Expert Reply:

The Roadmaster Brake Light Relay for Towed Vehicles, item # RM-88400, is designed to keep the brake signal from overriding the towed vehicle turn signals and would not affect the LED light on the motor home dash. It could be a missed wire or loose connection somewhere.

Most likely the connection at the towed vehicles brake light switch, under the dash behind the brake pedal, is disconnected or not properly installed. The red power wire should be attached to the cold side of the stop light switch that only goes hot when the brake pedal is pressed.

If this is not the case then the wire is bad or there is a bad connection between the towed vehicle jumper between the vehicles or the motor home. You should also make sure the ground for the LED is attached to a clean paint free ground on the motor home.
