Mitsubishi Montero Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation

Question:

My vehicle is a 2004 Mitsubishi Montero Limited not Montero sport. And has a spare wheel in the rear door. It is the exact vehicle featured in your video for trailer hitch #75116. Will the Thule hitching post pro TH934XTR work well in combination with the 2004 mitsubishi Montero hitch your site recommends 75116? Worried about the clearance of the hitch pole with the spare wheel. From the videos you have posted, it seems to work well with other vehicles with rear door mounted spare wheels Jeep Wrangler, Honda CRV. Are there any other hitch bike racks that are more extended out of the vehicle that you can recommend? The spare wheel has a nice cover and trying to avoid teh use of a spare wheel mounted rack.

When we installed the Draw Tite hitch part # 75116 on a 2004 Mitsubishi Montero like yours we found that the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the rear most portion of the spare was 13 inches.

That means you will need a bike rack that has at least 13 inches of clearance from it's pin hole to the upright bar of the rack.

The # TH934XTR has a distance of 13-1/2 inches from the pin hole to the upright bar of the rack. So it would be very tight, but technically the rack would fit. I would strongly recommend you measure your clearance to verify this.
