Cargo Bag Solution for 2014 Toyota Sienna to Allow Easy Rear Hatch Access

Question:

Hi, We are planning a road trip with our 2014 Toyota Sienna which has the side rails on the roof. Our dog will be riding in the trunk so well need to make frequent stops and open the trunk to let her out. How easy is it to open the trunk with this product? Will it have to be fully dismantled every time?

With a loaded cargo bag like the Rightline Cargo Hatch Saddlebag # RL100B90 installed on your Toyota Sienna you will need to undo the lower straps and shift the bag onto your roof for those occasions when you need to let your dog out.

A better option for your circumstances may be a hitch-mount carrier that can swing out of the way when you need access to your rear hatch. As long as your Sienna has a 2-inch hitch you can use Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches - 10 cu ft - 100 lbs # Y62VR that includes a hinge mechanism that lets you swing the entire carrier out of the way even when it is loaded with cargo.

You also have the option to use a roof-mount cargo carrier that will completely avoid interference with the rear hatch. We offer waterproof bags like the Rightline # RL100S30 that will work on any vehicle roof style and that offers 18-cubic feet of cargo space - substantially more than the saddlebag style. Please refer to the linked video.

If access to a roof bag is a concern we offer a tire step, part # HE4040, that simply slips over a rear tire when you need it and that folds up for easy storage inside the Sienna.
