Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 Long Bed with Cap Behind Motor Home

Question:

I'm looking for direction on what base plate/tow bar would be best for my 2011 Silverado 1500 4wd w/ 8 ft bed and cap. Vehicle weight is around 6,000 lbs. My RV has 10,000 lb capacity. Thanks!

For your 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 you can use Blue Ox base plates # BX1674. I have linked a video showing installation for you.

For a compatible tow bar that has a high enough capacity for the truck the Alpha # BX7380 is rated for 6,500 pounds and comes with safety cables.

For lighting you have some options. For a quick, easy, and inexpensive option you can use a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. For a more permanent solution I recommend the 4 diode kit # RM-154.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Patriot proportional system # BLU37TR. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the RV is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
