The Thule Passage 2 Bike Model, part # TH910XT would be a fit for your Miata. The rack is definitely a no-frills option, but Thule makes an excellent product and this rack would work great for you.

The top of the line option would be the Thule OutWay, part # TH45JV. Rather than the 4-6 difficult to use straps and buckles used by other racks (including the Passage) the Raceway uses only 2 rubber coated straps that allow the rack to be installed or removed in seconds without having to fiddle around with all those straps. This isn't an inexpensive option, but if the convenience of an easy install and the security provided by the locking features that attach the rack to the vehicle and the bikes to the rack is important to you, the OutWay would be my recommendation.

If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled top tubes, you might also consider a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes ground clearance (extremely important in a low-slung car like the Miata). I'll link you to a video showing how the adapter bar works.
