How To Select Weight Distribution Shank To Keep Trailer Level When Towing
Question:
I think I have the reese shank RP54970 couldnt find any numbers but with your dims. it seemed to match.I was able to use on my old truck. The problem I have is that the new truck is 4x4 and sits a little higher. When I set all the way down it is still about 1 1/2inch higher than the trailer coupler. I need to the trailer ball to level the trailer and the truck ball. Thanks

The Reese Weight Distribution Shank, part # RP54970 you referenced offers a 2 inch drop to a 5-1/4 inch rise.
If you are still sitting too high when you attach your hitch ball in the lowest position, you need a shank that has more of a drop. We offer several weight distribution shanks that have more drop you can choose from.
One shank I recommend is the Curt Weight Distribution Shank, part # 17120. This shank has a 15,000 lb weight capacity similar to the # RP54970, but has a maximum drop of 5-3/4 inches and a maximum rise of 9-1/4 inches. That may take care of the problem you said you are having.
I have attached a product review video for the # 17120 and I have attached a link to a helpful article about weight distribution and another that explains how to select the correct ball mount when towing.
