Recommended Platform Rack for Two Beach Cruiser Bikes
Question:
I have a Ford-F150 and am looking for a hitch mount rack for my two beach cruiser bikes. I have an old Thule Expressway and it does not work well with these types of bikes because the tires hang and swing back and forth. Also, I have to put a spreader bar on the female bike. Im looking for recommendation on the best models where the tires sit in a stirrup and a clamp comes down over the frame.. The Thule and Yakima appear to slide over the front tire. That wont work because the bikes have fenders. Can you suggest a few alternatives?

Beach Cruiser bikes are usually heavier than the average bike, so I'd recommend a platform rack with a good weight capacity like the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider, part # HR200Z. The rack can handle two bikes weighing up to 45 lbs apiece, and there's also a ratcheting hook that fits around the crossbar to secure the bike in place. Depending on the angle of the top tube, you might need to use the frame adapter bar on the women's bike you mentioned.
Swagman makes their XTC-2, part # S64670 that might work well if the weight of each bike is below 35 lbs.
Both Swagman and Hollywood Racks are well-respected manufacturers and both racks are very highly rated by our customers. I've linked you to a product demonstration video for each of the racks I've recommended.
