Hitch-Mount Bike Rack for Cruzbike Sofrider Recumbent and Standard Giant Cypress DX Bike

Question:

Which hitch mount rack would you recommend for a Cruzbike Sofrider. 52 inches axle to axle. Also hauling my wifes traditional Giant Cypress DX. Looking at Swagman, but not sure if middle brackets will attach since no crossbar on Sofrider.

Thank you for including a photo of your bike. That is quite helpful.

The Swagman XC 2-Bike Platform Style Rack # S64650 that you referenced is just a little short on wheelbase capacity for your Cruzbike Sofrider's 52-inch wheelbase, but Swagman does offer a specialized carrier just for recumbents, their XC-Extended Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack # S64650-EXT. This rack fits all 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches and includes two sets of wheel hoops that give it plenty of room for your 52-inch wheelbase bike.

The potential fit issue for both of these racks is that the ratcheting hook that normally grips a top frame tube will have to grip your bike at the seat and this wide area will make for a tough fit for the hook.

You will want to check the distance from the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of your car to ensure the Swagman's 10-inches of clearance will be enough to safely clear the back of your vehicle.

If you wife's bike lacks a top frame tube you'll want to add an adapter bar like # 64005 to give the carrier a place to grab the bike.
