Weight Distribution for a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 and 11,182 Pound Trailer
Question:
I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 MegaCab dually with the turbo diesel. I just purchased a 2013 Forest River Cherokee 39Q. Its 46foot long and has GVWR 11182lbs, dry hitch weight 1022lbs, and unloaded weight of 10,188lbs. I need the entire kit. Not sure about the difference between a round bar or trunnion bar. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
I recommend a system that is rated for 800 to 1,500 pounds tongue weight so that your trailer's tongue weight is about in the middle of that range; which is exactly where you want it to be.
Trunnion bar systems have better ground clearance, are easier to install (the spring bars) and are considered more heavy duty compared to round bars so I do recommend a trunnion bar system.
For a weight distribution system only with now sway control you can use # RP66131. The shank is not included so you will need to choose one based on the rise or drop needed to tow the trailer level. I have included a link that explains how to measure for rise/drop and a link to the compatible shanks for you.
You will also need to add a ball, # 19286, for a 2-5/16 inch. Since this system does not include sway control you can add some now or later if you wish. I recommend the dual-cam sway control # RP26002. It prevents sway before it starts.
