Hitch Extender for a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 with Factory 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch

Question:

Good afternoon. I have a 2015 gmc 2500HD with a factory ClassV receiver. I am planning on traveling with a golf cart in the bed, and pulling a 5k lb 2014 yamaha 24ft boat with a shorelandr trailer. With the tailgate down, i need a few more inches between the truck and the boat, a little concerned about tight turns that the boat could hit the golf cart. I would like an extended ball mount, or extension. The boat is a tandem axle, with a ~550 lb tongue weight from what I have read. I know the truck can handle the weight, and there are very limited ways to extend it seems. I have to imagine that a classV would handle the weight as well, just hard to find what I am looking for. Maybe a custom solid 2.5inch square bar.. I have also been looking for an extended swing portion for the trailer to extend that as well, but that seems to be hard to locate as well. The trailer is a 2014 shorelandr with surge brakes and swing away hitch.

We do have some extenders that you could use on the 2-1/2 inch hitch on your 2015 GMC Sierra 2500. If you used extension # C45048 it will provide 24 inches more clearance which will be more than enough. At the 24 inch length it is rated for 6,000 pound gross trailer weight and 600 pounds tongue weight. Provided the boat trailer does not exceed those capacities, this extender is going to be the best option.

Please note that this extender has a 2 inch receiver on the end so it is both an extender and a reducer. In other words you would also need a 2 inch ball mount.

We have some tongue extensions but they are rated for use with specific low-capacity trailers and would not work for your application.
