Pairing the Prodigy RF Trailer Brake Controller with a 2005 Mercedes ML500
Question:
Hi all, I have a 2005 MB ML500 with the factory towing harness. I need an electric brake controller and it looks like that Prodigy RF is the best solution to MBs sensitivity to aftermarket wiring hacks. My question is is there a simpler solution to the know pairing issue that doesnt involve a second vehicle with less sophisticated electronics? I dont have access to a second vehicle to do this and even if I did what would a user do if they were in a remote location with no access to a second vehicle?

There are a few things you can try to get the Prodigy RF to pair with your 2005 Mercedes ML500.
First, If you do not see displayed what the instructions say just keep going through the steps. Sometimes, it will not display what it is supposed to but it will still work if you go through the steps to completion.
If that does not work then you can try taping off the pin in the 5 oclock position at the back of the RF (where the trailer plugs into) using electrical tape. Then go through the installation process.
If that doesn't work you may need a 7-Way to 7-Way adapter, # 20142, which will put more load on the system and could allow the RF to pair up properly.
And if all of the above will not work then have a domestic vehicle with a functioning 7-Way parked right next to your ML500 and pair the RF using that vehicle. Then just move the handheld unit to the ML500 and tow the trailer with it and it will work. But it is unlikely that all of the above procedures would fail.
