Recommended Hanging Bike Carrier For 2015 Ford Escape To Carry Bikes With Cruiser Handlebars

Question:

Will there be a problem with handlebar interference when mounting 3 or 4 bikes with wide handlebars on this rack? Mount will be to a factory 2inch receiver on a 2015 Ford Escape.

Placing 4 bikes on a hanging bike carrier can sometimes be a job in itself, and adding longer handlebars can make it even a bit more difficult. I recommend a bike carrier that can hold more bikes which will give you more room on the arms when you carry fewer bikes.

The Thule Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR is designed to be able to carry up to 4 bikes. You can alternate the way you load the bikes so that there is less interference between the bikes. I have attached a product review video you can check out.

I recommend a 5-bike carrier like the Thule Apex, part # TH9026XT. With the longer arms you can have a little more space between the bikes when placed in the carrier. This carrier also tilts when empty for easier access to the rear cargo area of your Escape. This bike carrier features a cable lock in the mast that secures the bikes to the carrier, and the included hitch lock secure the carrier to the vehicle.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.
