Installing a Prodigy P3 Brake Controller on a 2003 Chevy Silverado without a 7-Way Vehicle Connector
Question:
I purchased a HM40975 along with a C14332 curt hitch on my 2003 Chevy Silverado. Id like to add this brake controller and adapter. I noticed in the rear of the truck there is existing wiring that plugs directly into the HM40975. Im assuming there is a trailer brake wire in that bundle, which is the blue wire that runs up Accessory fuse block in the engine compartment per your FAQ for How to Install a Brake Controller on Chevrolet / GMC 1999-2006 Pickups? So I plug the HM40975 into the existing wiring in the rear of the truck, then the brake controller #90195 into #3015-P which plugs into the electrical junction box drivers side floorboard, which then provides the red and blue wire I connect in the engine compartment fuse panel? Thank you!

Since your 2003 Chevy Silverado did not come with a factory 7-way connector you will need to connect the 12 volt and brake control power wires under your hood when installing the Prodigy P3 # 90195. You did purchase the correct wiring adapter # 3015-P and 7 and 4-pole connector # HM40975 that you referenced.
To do this, you will remove the bracket in the corner that is closest to the driver side to access the accessory fuse block. Once you reveal the fuse block, you will remove the top and lower covers to access the two wires, which will be next to the block and on the cab side.
The red wire, which is the 12 volt wire for the brake controller # 90195, will have a ring terminal on it. Use the ring terminal to connect this wire to the closest positive post. You will also need to install a green 30 amp fuse in the block, in the port closest to the positive post. See the diagram I included.
The blue wire will have a plug on the end. Clip off this plug and connect the blue wire to the blue electric brake wire from the Prodigy P3 brake controller. See the diagram I included.
I included a article on installing a brake controller on a 1999-2006 Chevy truck for you to view, as it has some close up pictures that should be helpful for you.
I also added the brake controller installation video on a similar Chevy truck.
