How to Determine What Bearings are Needed for Friends Fishing Boat
Question:
My friend bought a boat. and we took it out during our early duck season last fall. well when we came back he had a bearing go down and when i took it apart the previous owner had installed the wrong bearings. HE WAS USING AN OLD RACE AS A SPACER BETWEEN THE OUTER BEARING AND NUT! my question is how do i figure out what model bearings he needs to get for his trailer? the ID and OD are correct in the bearings thats on it now but it acts like it needs a wide bearing. any information will be appreciated.

I recommend taking a few measurements on the spindle of your friend's boat trailer to make sure that you have the correct bearings installed. We'll first need to know the inner diameters of the inner and outer bearing and the grease seal. These measurements will need to be very precise, down to a thousandth of an inch so I recommend using a digital caliper.
I have included a photo that shows where to measure on the spindle. You can then choose the correct bearings, based on the inner diameters, and the matching race.
I have attached a link to all of our trailer bearings and races. Just use the filters on the page to narrow down the search once you have your measurements. If you would like to provide me with the above information plus the width of the bearings that are currently on the trailer, I will be happy to help you determine which parts that you will need.
