Using Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack, Part # Y02445 on 2009 Toyota Yaris with Class I Hitch
Question:
I drive a 2009 Toyota Yaris 2-door hatchback. I would like to use the Yakima Holdup with 1.25 hitch mount to transport one bike approximately 25 pounds. Can the Holdup be used with a Class I hitch the only size available for my car? Thank you for your help!

The Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack, part # Y02445 will not work with a Class I hitch. Because of the limited tongue weight capacity of the Class I hitch, the hitch manufacturers weld a stop or punch a detent into the receiver that prevents the use of Class II accessories that have a higher weight capacity.
Unfortunately, it is physically impossible to use this rack on that hitch because the shank of the rack will not slide into the receiver far enough for the pin holes to line up and the hitch pin to be inserted.
The Thule Doubletrack Pro XT, part # TH92BJ will be compatible with a class I hitch. It will also work with class II and III hitches, so the rack can be used on different vehicles. Thule makes a great bike rack, the Doubletrack Pro would work great for you.
If you wanted a rack that holds the bikes by the wheels only, as the HoldUp does, Thule offers a similar rack, the T2 # TH9045. If you click the provided link, you can see video product demonstrations of both racks.
