Adding Electric Drum Brakes To a Master Tow Dolly

Question:

I want to add electric brakes to my recently purchased Master Tow dolly. It has what appears to be a brake flange, but it is rotated 45 degrees from square. In other words, it is in a diamond shape - not square. The holes are 2 7/8 in on center. It is my understanding that mounting the backing plate turned 45 degrees would interfere with the operation of the brakes. Why would the plate be mounted this way and do I have any options? I took pictures of the wheel / plate and have attached them.

I do believe that you do have brake mounting flanges. It is odd that they are turned a little, not square, but it would not have much of a negative affect on the braking. As long as you have the right brake on the right side and the left brake on the left side it will work.

In order to use electric brakes you would also need to change the idler hubs you have to hub and drum assemblies. For that I would need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the sides of the bearings. I would also need to know the wheel size or tire size, and the size of the studs on the hubs you have now (1/2 inch, 9/16, and so on).

I have also included a link to a help article that covers everything needed to added electric drum brakes to a trailer, or in this case a tow dolly.
