How to Make Raising and Lowering a Heavy Trailer Ramp Easier

Question:

I have a 16inch 2 axel flatbed trailer with a ramp that folds down to drive lawnmowers etc. on. It is too heavy and I need help raising and lowering the ramp. It has 2- 3/4 pins that slide in a open tube that is welded to the frame of the trailer. How do I use your springs on my trailer, and which ones do I need to buy?

Expert Reply:

You wouldn't use a spring like # RS16933LH because it produces 2,000 foot pounds of torque and you would not be able to open the ramp. What I recommend is either the Rack'em Double Barrel tailgate assist, # RA-27C.

The Double Barrel will reduce a 134 pound ramp to less than 5 pounds and works in both directions and for ramps up to 200 pounds. I linked a video showing how the Double Barrel installs.
