Electric Trailer Brakes for a Floe Snowmobile Trailer with 2,200 Pound Axles

Question:

I have 20foot tandem axle Floe trailer that I would like to convert from surge brakes to electric brakes. Each axle is rated at 2200#, but only the front axle has brakes on it. Trailer has 13inch wheels. Can you recommend a suitable replacement brake? Thanks!

The axle you have that can take brakes probably has a 4-bolt mounting pattern for the brakes. You could use Dexter brakes # 23-48 for the right and # 23-47 for the left. If the mounting flange doesn't take a 4-bolt assembly let me know.

In addition to the brakes themselves you will also need wiring, maybe a different trailer connector depending on what the trailer has now (if the trailer has a 7-Way then you would not need to change connectors), and the vehicle will need to have a brake controller and 7-Way if it doesn't have one already.

If the trailer needs a 7-Way you can use # H20042. For the vehicle I would need to know the year, make, and model to determine the proper wiring components needed. For a brake controller I recommend the P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up, easy to use, and it is reliable.
