If your older Tekonsha brake controller is still working you may be able to use it with your new tandem axle trailer. They key is whether that controller is compatible with your type of trailer brakes. I was not able to find any specs on a Safari 20 trailer but if the trailer uses electric drum brakes then you will be fine. If it uses electric-over-hydraulic (EOH) brakes then you may still be able to use your older Tekonsha controller as long as it has a switch to allow you to select that type of braking system. If the unit you have works only on electric brakes, and your trailer has EOH brakes, then you will need a new controller.
Tekonsha's Prodigy P2 # 90885 is a reliable and popular brake controller that works with BOTH types of trailer brakes and includes many features that make this unit among the easiest to set up and operate. Please refer to the linked video for more on the P2.
Depending on your tow vehicle there may be a quick-connect harness available to install the P2, and if you care to let me know your vehicle year/make/model/version I will check to see if we offer one. If not, we can still offer you a hardwire brake controller install kit # ETBC7.
