Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for 6 inches of Drop and Corrosion Resistance

Question:

I just purchased a new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z-71 4 wheel drive crew cab with a 6 1/2foot bed. I ordered the factory towing package with this truck. I am interested in purchasing a DT-STBM6600 adjustable ball mount for my receiver hitch I think? The 2inch and 2 5/16inch chrome balls will be what I will want. I have measured my truck and a few different trailers several times now. I am thinking the 6inch model would be best for my application. I am certain that I will NOT require a hitch with more than this. I am thinking that a 4inch will not quite be enough in certain applications. The adjustability is a must for me. If I had to guess.... I think my truck will sag apx 2inch when loaded + I have my 7x14 v-nose trailer. I usually haul 2 Harley dressers in it when I travel on long distance bike trips. Since I am wanting to get this RIGHT on the first time out.... I thought I would consult with you to hear any suggestions you might make regarding my particular vehicle. I would also like to hear any comments or suggestions you have regarding this particular style DT ball mount. I initially looked at the lockable style.... but think that the feature of being able to lock the mechanism down securely with the allen bolts would provide a SOLID set up that would NOT rattle at all. Also, I live in Indiana. Much salt, sand and dirt is spread here in the winter months. Would this cause any concerns or problems to the solid mount ball mount? Your recommendations will be highly appreciated. I will be placing an order for the new ball mount very soon. THANK YOU !

It sounds like you really did your homework and know exactly what you are looking for in terms of an adjustable ball mount. Based on everything you said the part # DTSTBM6600 would be a great choice for you as it has the ball sizes you need plus has the max amount of drop that you would need. Especially when you consider that when your rear suspension sags you would end up not needs quite as much drop to make the trailer sit level.

Since you mentioned corrosion resistance I might have a better option for you since the balls of the # DTSTBM6600 are chrome. The Diversi-Tech Ball Mount part # DTALBM6600-2S is essentially the same ball mount except it comes with stainless steel balls that will offer superior corrosion resistance.
