Winch and Winch Plate Recommendation for Backing a Trailer Down a Backyard Hill

Question:

Ive installed a the Curt Trailer Hitch part number C13105 on my 2013 Toyota Sienna. Im looking for a way to keep our 2500lb tent camper in our backyard. Access to the backyard requires lowering the camper down a hill. Im thinking about using a winch to maneuver the camper up/down the hill. Im wondering if using the Curt Trailer Hitch Electric Winch Mount Plate part number C31010 would be a feasible solution. My concern is whether the receiver hitch will be capable of handling this stress. Do you think the stress of a dead pull of the camper up the hill could damage the receiver hitch or rip it off the van? Or is this no different than just towing the camper down the road? Thanks,

If I am understanding you correctly it sounds like you want to use the Curt Winch Plate part # C31010 in your Curt Hitch part # C13105 to winch a 2,500 lb trailer up and down your back yard.

The Curt Hitch # C13105 has plenty of capacity to do this as it has a 3,500 lb trailer capacity. All you would need to do is pick out the correct winch for the job.

Pulling a load up a ramp or incline adds extra resistance. To find the amount of load that can be pulled up an incline, multiply the winch capacity by the factor shown in the chart. The multiplication factor shown includes a 10 percent rolling factor. Note: 5 percent incline is a 1/2 ft rise in 10 ft.

Once you figure out what capacity you would need I attached a page that has all of the brake winches we carry. You will need to select your winch capacity from the filter and all of the correct winches will be listed.

I also attached a help article on picking out the correct winch for you to check out.
