Bike Rack Recommendation for a 48-1/2 inch Carbon Frame Recumbent

Question:

Just got a carbon frame recumbent bike with a wheelbase of 48.5 inches. Need a hitch mounted rack that can hold the bike without touching the frame. Was looking at the highland sportwwing but one of your answers suggested that 46 inches was the max. What would be an inexpensive rack to do the job?

Carbon is soft and can be deformed if too much pressure is put on it. That is why many people avoid bike carriers that make contact with the carbon components of the bike. But on your recumbent it looks like the hook on platform style carrier would come down on the seat which could work in your favor.

A bike rack specifically for recumbents, # HR1000Z-R, would be a better option. I recommend making the hook snug but not overly tight to avoid damage. If you do that you could arrange the bike on either rack so the hook comes down right in front of the seat.
