Recommended Air Suspension System For 2005 Toyota Sienna For Towing

Question:

Hi, Can you tell me why the hitch used for the 2005 Toyota Sienna hits on the floor when going over bumps? Is this normal? Is there any solution to it?

The first thing you want to do is make sure you are not overloading the trailer or the back of your Sienna, causing it to sag. From the measurements we have taken with hitch installations on vehicles like yours, there should be at least 7 inches of clearance between the bottom of the hitch and the ground.

We may be able to recommend something that will help you out when you are towing. If your suspension is in good working order I recommend installing a suspension enhancement system like the Air Lift Vehicle Suspension, part # AL60732. This system installs in the coil springs at the rear of your Sienna and allows you to adjust the air pressure between 5 and 35 psi to add support when towing or carrying heavier cargo. This will not increase the weight capacity for your vehicle or trailer, and is designed to help stabilize your vehicle when you are hauling or towing.

To make it easier to adjust the air pressure level in the springs I recommend the Air Lift Load Controller II Compressor System, part # AL25592. This lets you adjust the springs from the comfort of the driver seat.

Another option is to install a weight distribution system. I have attached a helpful article that explains weight distribution you can check out. When selecting a WD system the most important thing to know is the tongue weight. Tongue weight is the tongue weight of the fully loaded ready to tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo loaded behind the rear axle of your vehicle.

After you have determined your tongue weight you can let me know and I will be glad to make some recommendations that will work for you.
