Ground Clearance of Front Mounted Receiver Installed on 2009 Ram 1500 2WD
Question:
2009 dodge ram 1500 big horn slt, 2wd crew cab with 20inch wheels. 5.7l hemi Im looking at front hitch. the curt 31374 says its 4x4 only. the other hitche draw tite looks very similiar but comes up on my 2wd search. ive read the curt will fit a 2wd but theres a clearance issue as it sits too close to the ground. what are your thoughts on this as i dont want to get the draw tite and have the same clearance issue.

According to Curt, their # 31374 front mounted receiver isn't recommended for 2WD models because of their lower ride height. My Curt representative also told me that there might be differences in the front suspension members that would interfere with the hitch.
The Draw-Tite # 65062 which is indeed very similar to the Curt model will sit so that the underside of the receiver tube will sit about 1-3/4 inches below the bottom of the bottom of the bumper fascia. In Draw-Tite's opinion, this amount of ground clearance would be acceptable, although the hitch would sit at the same height as the Curt hitch would.
I'd recommend watching the installation video that I've linked for you. Viewing the video will give you a better idea of where the hitch would sit.
