How to Pick Out a Weight Distribution System for a Travel Trailer
Question:
I am trading my old travel trailer with a dry tongue weight of 772 lbs for a new travel trailer with a dry tongue weight of 400 lbs. I currently have trunion bars at 1200, and 1400 lbs. Keeping in mind that these are dry unloaded weights what would be the correct spring bar for this trailer? 800 lb or 1000 lb.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
Dry tongue weight doesn't give me enough info to be able to safely recommend a system. Once you determine your dry tongue weight check out the link I attached that will take you to a page that has all of the Strait Line systems we carry. You will be able to select your loaded tongue weight from the filters and all of the properly rated systems will be listed there.
