Trailer Tire and Wheel Combo to Replace 7.00-15LT Tires on a Tandem Axle Horse Trailer

Question:

We have a heavy twin axle horse trailer with Towmaster 700-17LT tires installed on it. Two of the tires are dry-rotted and the rims on all of the tires are rusty. So I would like to replace the tires as well as the rims. I read where it is best to replace them with trailer tires ST. Will these tires/rims work as a replacement for our current ones? What is the best Load Range for replacement tires?

The 7.00-15 tires you have now are still valid for use on trailers. We do carry one, # AM10414, but it does not come mounted on a wheel. I would need to know the bolt pattern your trailer requires to recommend a wheel. I have included a link to a help article that explains how to measure for bolt pattern.

A 225/75-15 could be a fit though. Tire and wheel combo # AM3S870 has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. The load range is going to depend on the gross trailer weight capacity. there should be a plate that lists what the gross trailer weight is. You want to get tires that exceed that capacity.

Tire and wheel combo # AM3S870 is rated for 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. So on a single axle the combined capacity of the tires would be 5,080 pounds. So for 2 axles the tires would be rated for a total of 10,160 pounds. I have included a link to our help article on trailer tires as well. If you have a different bolt pattern or need a higher capacity tire, let me know.
