Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2007 Chevy Express Van 2500
Question:
I am curious of the rating for the tow bar base plates. I have a G2500 2007. I am wondering if my van or a 1 ton chevy express van which is loaded could be pulled with these plates and perhaps a blue ox tow bar? Or is there a set of base plates more beefy which i would need? Thanks!

Helpful Expert Reply:
For your 2500 series Chevy Express van the correct base plate kit is the part # 3140-1 as long as your van isn't a diesel. This is a Roadmaster base plate kit that can be towed with a properly rated tow bar like the Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 part # RM-422 that has a 10k capacity.
For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting you would want the part # RM-154 that taps into the taillight wiring of your vehicle.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the two vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
