Relocating Inertial Sensor of SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System
Question:
I own the Duo and wonder when the brakes are activated it deplete the cars vacuum booster and the brake pedal become difficult to press. How does the Duo adjust for this? Lastly, I own a 2012 Ford Focus. Because of space limitations the Duo on- off switch box was installed near the drivers left foot well. The switch is constantly being hit by the drivers foot. There does not seem to be any other place to put the switch. Is ther any device you sell that can help me mitigate the problem or do you have any suggestions. Thanks.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Stay-In-Play DUO works best when the vacuum booster is depleted, so that the pull on the brake pedal is consistent. The first few times you press the brake pedal, they'll still be some residual pressure in the car's braking system. It's recommended that you press the pedal several times before moving off, so that the system applies the brakes with consistent pressure.
The switch you mentioned is on the box that serves as the inertia sensor, which needs to be mounted so its level and parallel to the direction of travel. If room allows, it can be moved up higher on the kick plate or relocated to the door pillar next to the driver's seat.
Relocating the sensor box would be my best suggestion.
