Fan Powered Transmission/Oil Cooler Kit for 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 Liter
Question:
I have read many posts on here regarding using Derale D13503 or D13504, for additional cooling, however I do alot of slow 4X4 driving and I worry the addition of a simple oil cooler plate and fin, wont help enough. Is there a derale equivalent to D13503 or 4 which also has an electric fan to aid in cooling at slow speeds? Thanks

We do indeed offer fan-powered coolers that can be used for either engine oil or transmission fluid. In really rough slow-speed off-road conditions a passive cooler like Derale # D13503 may not get enough air flow through it for it to do its job. In such cases a fan-powered cooler is definitely the way to go. Coolers are not fluid-specific, meaning that any given cooler can be used for engine oil or transmission fluid. The are not vehicle-specific either.
We offer both single-path and combination oil/transmission fan-powered coolers such as the Derale Electra-Cool Combo Engine and Transmission Cooler # D15220. This item addresses the cooling of both oil and tranny fluid in one powered cooler. You will also need two installation kits, one for tranny and one for oil, parts # D15752 and # D13006.
The other advantage of powered coolers is that they do not have to mount in a location that gives ideal air flow. They can be positioned in just about any convenient location and will still do their job.
You just need to have enough room to mount it.
The two linked articles will give you great background on coolers and may be helpful in deciding on your preference.
