Why Do the Brakes of My Gooseneck Trailer Lock Up When 6-Way Adapter is Connected

When I hook my goose neck trailer up it locks my trailer brakes down im using a 7 pin adapter to a 6 pin I need some help please.

The problem you are experiencing is due to the fact that there are two different ways 6-way trailer connectors are wired. The only difference between the two is that the brake output circuit and the 12 volt power circuit are swapped.

So basically what is happening is that the 12 volt power circuit of your truck is sending voltage to the brake output circuit of your trailer which is locking them up.

What you need to do is swap the wire going to the center pin of the 6-way adapter with the one in the 10:00 position and the adapter will function properly.

I attached a picture that shows the pin out a 6-way connector that you can use as a guide.
