Fit of Carpod # M2205-01-02 Cargo Carrier on Toyota Highlander
Question:
Will the carpod folding carrier fold up properly on our Toyota Highlander 2010 or 2011. We are considering this to move a few things not furniture to a vacation cottage and would like for it to fold back up when we return home after emptying the carrier at our location. Thanks!!

To determine how well the # M2205-01-02 Carpod Folding Cargo Carrier will fit your Highlander, you'll need to measure the lateral distance from the hitch pin hole in the receiver to the furthest rearward point of the back bumper. In order for the carrier to install in your hitch (much less fold), this distance needs to be less than 2-1/2 inches. I've linked you to an FAQ article that explains exactly how to take this measurement.
If you find you won't have enough clearance, I have what might be a better alternative for you. The Curt # C18151 offers a shank that's long enough that clearance, even when folded won't be a problem. You can carry your gear in cargo bag like part # 988501. The bag has a whopping 20 cubic foot capacity, and is weather proof. Weather proof means that the gear inside will be protected from road grime and moderate rain, but very hard sustained rain might make its way inside the bag. This is why we routinely recommend folks wrap anything that absolutely can't get wet in plastic. This option would also be much less expensive than the Carpod cargo carrier.
I've linked you to product demonstration videos for the Curt cargo carrier and the cargo bag.
