Cargo Carrier with Ramp Recommendation for Transporting a Snow Blower

Question:

Morning, all. I am considering purchasing this trailer hitch attachment to periodically move my Cub Cadet 3x snowblower from place to place, as needed, during the winter months. My concerns are twofold: first off, the snowblower has a clearing width of 26 inches and weighs in at just under 290 pounds. I read that the interior width of the hitch attachment is 28 inches...can you guys confirm that? Reason being is if there is any wiggle room, I would like to purchase the snowblower with the 28 inch clearing width, but it has to fit on the ramp obviously. Last, I have a 2013 jeep wrangler jk unlimited with 34 inch tires and a 3-1/2 inch lift kit on it. Any issues at that height to your knowledge with the ramp not hitting the pavement? If so, is there an extension of some sort that I can purchase from you to remedy that situation, should it occur? Thanks for the help!

If your plan is to go with a 28 inch wide snowblower, you would need to go with the Flint Hill Goods steel carrier # FHG77ZR would be your best option as it has internal dimensions of 48" long x 28" wide x 5" deep. It is the widest carrier we offer at 28 inches (internal). The length of this ramp is 48 inches, if you measure out 48 inches on a tape measure and then hold the tape measure at the height of your Jeep's hitch you will see how steep of an angle the ramp would be at when this carrier is installed in your hitch.

This carrier has a capacity of 500 lbs so it would do just fine with your 290 lb snow blower, you would need to add this weight to the weight of the carrer (80 lbs), and verify that the hitch of your vehicle has a tongue weight rating higher than this figure (370 lbs).

The aluminum Flint Hill Goods carrier # FHG69ZR has a 60 inch ramp but only has an interior width of 27-1/2".

To determine where the railing of the carrier will sit in relation to your spare tire you will need to measure of the steel # FHG77ZR is 14" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier and the # FHG69ZR is 8-1/2". That is where the nearest edge of the carrier will be. This will help you determine if either setup will clear the spare you have.

I attached a review video for both carriers for you to check out as well.
