How to Pick Out a Strait-Line Weight Distribution System for a Travel Trailer

Question:

I have been looking at weight distribution hitches on your site for a while. I purchased a travel trailer that came with an older Reese WD hitch but the shank is not adjustable and sits to low on my truck. I like the strait line system but wasnt sure the weight range to be looking at. I think I am in the middle of the available options. The dry tongue weight of my trailer is just a little over 400lbs with a dry trailer weight of 4541lbs. Which one would you recommend? I know there will be added cargo weight.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Once you determine the loaded tongue weight of your setup check out the link I attached that will take you to a page that has all of the Strait Line systems we carry listed. Select your tongue weight from the filters and the correct systems will be listed.

The Straitline system like the part # RP66083 are great because they feature the only sway control on the market that works to stop sway before it starts. This part number has a tongue weight range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs which I suspect will be the correct system for you.
