Comparing Yakima Skybox NX 16 And Yakima RocketBox Pro 14 Cargo Boxes For 2014 Subaru Outback

Question:

Other than the difference in cargo size, what is the difference between the Yakima Rocketbox product and the Skybox product? Is the Skybox a superior material or construction? Either should fit my car a 2014 Subaru Outback.

The Yakima RocketBox Pro like part # Y07192, is a 14 cubic ft cargo box that measures 74 x 33 x 16 inches. The Yakima Skybox NX, part # Y95AV measures 75-1/2 x 35 x 16 inches and has 16 cubic feet of cargo space.

The Skybox has 3 ribs in the lid, making it much stiffer than other roof boxes. It also has a locking handle versus the push button on the RocketBox. They both have dual-side opening and have similar mounting hardware.

To find if you have the clearance needed to fit your 2014 Subaru Outback you can take a simple measurement. If your crossbars are adjustable slide the front crossbar as far forward as possible. Then measure form the center of the front crossbar rearward to the seam that separates the roof and the rear hatch. This is the front clearance you need for a cargo box so your hatch can open fully.

The RocketBox Pro 14 requires 45 inches front clearance and the Skybox NX 16 requires 47 inches of front clearance.

I have attached product review videos for these boxes you can check out.

You want to make sure that you do not exceed the roof weight capacity for your Outback by checking your owner's manual or with your dealership.
